Ana Maria holds a Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia with a National Health Services Corps scholarship. She earned a BS in Public Health from George Washington University in Washington, DC and a Master of Public Health from Emory University. Ana Maria was an Administrative Fellow at Emory University Hospital prior to her physician assistant studies where she focused on strategic planning and hospital management. She is Board Certified by the National Committee on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and licensed by the Utah State Licensing Board.
She is fluent in Spanish and is of Mexican-American decent, a great match for our patient base. Ana Maria enjoys practicing family medicine, but has gained special expertise in women’s health while living and working in Tepic, Mexico at the Hospital General de Tepic. Ana Maria also spent time as a Sex Education Teacher in Chimbote, Peru. Her parents are originally from Mexico and she learned to speak Spanish at home.
Ana Maria has amassed a great deal of volunteer experience that she brings to the position, including work with the Latin American Cancer Research Association and the American Diabetes Association. Other experience includes financial analysis for the Rwanda Zambia HIV Research Group; clinical services, translation, and data analysis; as a tutor; a translator; and an organizer for various organizations during her university years.
